Quinta do Noval
Colheita 2009
Douro Valley
Colheita is a Vintage Tawny Port. Whereas Tawnies with an indication of age show the House style, Vintage Tawnies show the personality of the vintage year. Colheita spends its entire life in barrel until the moment of bottling. On the nose they are fresh, powerful and fruit-forward with balanced acidity. On the palate they have a nutty, oxidized character with a seductively smooth finish.
VINEYARD
The wine is produced exclusively from selected plots at the Quinta, and is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão and Sousão from Quinta do Noval’s vineyard.
WINEMAKING
Grapes from the Quinta do Noval vineyard are trodden by foot to obtain the must, then during fermentation are pressed in lagares, the traditional stone vats. Legislation requires a minimum ageing period of 7 years in casks. At Quinta do Noval, Colheitas are commercialised after 10 to 12 years of maturing.
VINTAGE
In 2009 we had a wet and cold winter at Noval, springtime with little rain and a very dry summer with temperatures lower than average, except for the months of June and September. The vines were exposed to heat for a longer time during the day. Consequently, the vines preserved their leaves throughout the whole growing cycle, and an efficient distribution of water to the plant was achieved. Mild temperatures and low rainfall favored the flowering in the end of May. The ripening was early and even until mid-August, exploding after that due to high temperatures and very dry weather. At harvest the grapes were in excellent health and perfectly ripe.
TASTING NOTE
“Quinta do Noval 2009 Colheita reveals a lovely amber colour with a dark tawny core. Very intense and concentrated on the nose, it presents a harmonious mix of nuts and spices aromas. Liquorice notes come together with toasted almond and younger fruity flavours. Some citrus notes then appear combined with its freshness and velvety texture giving a rich lively wine. This 2009 Colheita is wonderful and seductive with a long finish.”

Reviews
"Mouth-coating fruit and texture"
Wine Advocate - August 15, 2022 “The 2009 Colheita Tawny Port is a typical field blend of grapes like Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Sousão and Tinta Roriz, bottled June 2022 with 117 grams of sugar, 20.6% alcohol and a long cork. In this big vintage, you get mouth-coating fruit and texture, fine depth and a delicious finish. You get a little extra oomph here, I think. The finish is laced with classic caramel and chocolate. It is fresh and rich, in great shape. This is only a little more aged than a 10 Year, but it overachieves...” M.S 8/22
"Cherry, toffee, caramel"
James Suckling - November 2, 2022 "The aromas of cherry, toffee, caramel, and candied orange are so welcoming. The palate is full and medium-sweet with a lovely berry, nut and light chocolate aftertaste." J.S 8/22
"Delicious"
Wine Spectator - February 3, 2023 "A nice, lush tawny in hue, with black cherry paste and plum pâte de fruit notes laced with singed anise, sandalwood and hazelnut hints. Reveals ample underlying zip for balance, too. Delicious. Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Cão, Sousão and Tinta Roriz." B.S 1/23
"Classic complexity and nuance"
Jeb Dunnuck - February 10, 2023 "The 2009 Colheita Tawny Port showed well, with classic complexity and nuance in its caramelized darker red fruits, cigar, tobacco, sandalwood, and chocolaty, caramel-driven bouquet. Based largely on Touriga Nacional (as well as Touriga Franca, Tinto Roriz, Tinto Cao, and Sousao), it shows a more medium-bodied style on the palate, with considerable elegance, a fine thread of acidity, and good overall balance. In short, it's a classic Tawny Port that will keep for another 20-30 years." J.D 2/23

Vinhas da Marka
Douro Valley
Vinhas da Marka is the very first edition of a new exciting project called ‘Terroir Series’. Every edition will focus on one specific terroir that was identified that year as exceptional. A few years ago, Quinta do Noval concluded an agreement with the Agrellos family for the long term lease of the vineyard of Quinta da Marka, which we had identified as having terroir of exceptional potential. This potential was revealed by the outstanding red wines produced in the 2019 vintage. It was so remarkable, that the Noval team has decided to release a very limited volume of that wine. Only 200 bottles was brought into the US.

Late Bottled Vintage Single Vineyard Port
Douro Valley, Portugal
This wine is a remarkable example of the Noval style. Treated exactly like a Vintage Port with only noble grape varieties that sourced exclusively from estate vineyards, trodden by foot and unfiltered. This expression differs in its extended aging, seeing five years in casks instead of the typical two years for Vintage Ports. Definitely an LBV with a difference, this wine has fine structured tannins, great freshness and purity of fruit. It is delicious to drink today, but will age beautifully in its bottle.
