Quinta do Noval 619

Tawny 20 Year Old Port NV

Douro Valley, Portugal

August 05, 2018
Noval 20 year old Tawny is a blend of old Ports from different vintages that have matured in oak casks, with an average age of 20 years. Irresistible freshness with all the complexity of age. Harmonious and balanced, fine, elegant and long, with all the aromatic complexity typical of Noval Tawny Ports.

Decanter -January 19, 2021 "A chip off the (40-year-old) block, Quinta do Noval’s 20-year-old has excellent structure and drive. Together with the fresh acidity, heady yet controlled Cognac-like spirit harmoniously buoys its orange peel,…

Wine Spectator -August 08, 2018 "This is a shade darker and richer than its peers, with warm toffee, hazelnut cream, roasted vanilla, cinnamon and walnut husk leading the way, backed by halva, pistachio oil and…

Noval BLACK Reserve Port NV

Douro Valley, Portugal

August 05, 2018
The style of Noval BLACK is entirely about emphasizing the quality of this fruit, through use of estate fruit, gentle handling (including foot treading), and vinification aiming for transparency.  You could say it is the most wine-like of ruby reserve ports, and that is the secret to its flexibility, in cocktails, chilled, and even on ice.

Jeb Dunnuck -February 10, 2023 "I always love this cuvée, which offers tons of character for a great price. Classic Noval notes of spicy red and blue fruits, orange blossom, cigar, tobacco, and candied mint…

Wine Advocate -February 04, 2019 "The NV Black Ruby Reserve Porto is mostly Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and Tinto Cão aged in an equal mixture of oak and stainless steel. It comes in with 100…

Jeb Dunnuck -August 08, 2018 "The NV Black cuvée comes half from estate vineyards (the rest is sourced from the Cima Corgo region in the Douro Valley) and is aged two years in larger oak…

Wine & Spirits Magazine -August 08, 2018 “Black replaces LB, Noval’s former entry in this range, and uses top-quality fruit to create a soft, accommodating texture. The aromas are purple-black while the flavors are pure black cherry.…

Selecció Especial

August 05, 2018
Selecció Especial Vinyes Velles is 100% Carignane from hundred year old vines in some of the best vineyards in Priorat, in one of the coolest, steepest and highest elevations of the appellation, factors which contribute to optimal phenolic ripeness and help preserve flavors and acidity. A wine of truly profound fruit and minerality.

Wine Advocate -August 30, 2019 "To catch up on the top of the range, I tasted three vintages, the oldest of which is the 2014 Selecció Especial, pure Cariñena from extremely old vines cropped from…

Wine Advocate -August 30, 2019 "The 2015 Selecció Especial, pure Cariñena from centenary vines in the village of Porrera, matured in new French oak barrels for 19 months. 2015 was a warm and dry year…

Wine Advocate -August 30, 2019 "The expressive 2016 Selecció Especial reminds me of the 2010, with all the baby fat and all the primary notes still there. It seems to have a lot of everything…

Ferrer Bobet 609

Vinyes Velles

August 05, 2018
Ferrer Bobet's Vinyes Velles is an old vine blend of Carignane (70%) and Grenache (30%). It's produced from some of the best steep slate hillside and terraced vineyards in Priorat. Though the "second wine" of Ferrer Bobet, the initial 2005 release put Ferrer Bobet on the wine world map. Two of the most important publications in Spain named it their wine of the year, and accolades came pouring in from Russia, the UK and the US. It launched the Ferrer Bobet mission of creating wines of elegance and purity, and the message has resonated.

Decanter -September 26, 2019 "Deep, dark though not saturated black-red. Dense, close-grained aromas of great subtlety and complexity: a sense of stone and savoury depths as well as sweet yet austere black fruits. Deep,…

Wine Advocate -August 30, 2019 "The old-vine cuvée 2015 Vinyes Velles is a blend of 67% Cariñena and 33% Garnacha from 70+-year-old vines on the slopes of the village of Porrera, and it aged in…

Wine Advocate -August 30, 2019 "As with other wines, the 2016 Vinyes Velles has a little less alcohol and more acidity than the 2015. There is a little more Cariñena, up to 70%, and the…

Priorat

Priorat, Spain

August 05, 2018
Ferrer Bobet Priorat is the second vintage of a Priorat produced primarily from Ferrer Bobet’s own vineyards. It fulfills the vision of elegance, freshness and detail that were the reasons for starting the estate. It is a Carignan based blend, based on low vigor and high quality rootstocks and clones, aiming for perfectly balanced vines.

Wine Advocate (92+) -August 30, 2019 "2016 was a fresher year than 2015, and so the 2016 Ferrer-Bobet is also fresher than the 2015, with a little less alcohol and more acidity. The blend changed a…

Galatrona

Val d'Arno di Sopra

August 05, 2018
Galatrona is a cru made entirely from Merlot grapes coming exclusively from a single vineyard planted in the early ‘90s. Year after year, it is recognized critically (the “Le Pin of Tuscany” by Wine Spectator, for example) but, more importantly, understood as being a reflection of its site far more than its grape varietal.

Wine Advocate -August 30, 2019 "Despite the hardships of the vintage, Luca Sanjust and the team at Petrolo poured all their focus and attention into creating this wine. The 2017 Galatrona shows a hot-vintage interpretation…

Wine Advocate -August 30, 2019 "Tasted from barrel, the gorgeous 2018 Galatrona promises much beauty to come. Luca Sanjust says that this is the most Pomerol of the Merlot-based Galatronas he has created, and indeed,…

Bòggina A

Val d'Arno di Sopra

August 05, 2018
Every year, Petrolo selects a small lot of Bòggina, a wine made purely from their best Sangiovese grapes, to ferment in amphorae. The choice of amphorae has a historical dimension to get closer to Tuscany's cultural roots, as Terracotta in Tuscany has a history back to the early Etruscan times. The remains of amphorae and other Etruscan relics can be found throughout the Petrolo property, an area that has been settled for thousands of years.

Wine Advocate -August 30, 2019 "Hitting the market now, the 2017 Val d'Arno di Sopra Bòggina A is a very spicy and sassy expression of amphorae-aged Sangiovese. There are elements of crushed white pepper and…

Torrione

Val d'Arno di Sopra

August 05, 2018
Torrione is made primarily from Sangiovese grapes, both those that come from historic vines of the 1970s and ones more recently planted with high density. The yield per plant is notably restricted, allowing a concentration of all the noble components of the grape, fundamental for the full-bodied character of this wine. The fruit intensity and its black character make it a comparison to Brunello at several times the price.

Wine Advocate (92+ ) -August 30, 2019 "This vintage is an IGT Toscana wine instead of a Valdarno di Sopra appellation expression. The 2017 Torrione is mostly Sangiovese with some Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blended within. This…

Marina Cvetic Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

August 05, 2018
Gianni Masciarelli one day suprised his wife by presenting her with this wine, from the grape he made famous from the region, named after her. Croatian in origin, her first reaction was that no one would be able to pronounce the wine. Because of the outstanding sites used to produce the wine and the serious winemaking care it undergoes, Marina Cvetic Montepulciano d'Abruzzo soon became the most widespread example of serious Montepluciano in the world.
